first_imgDonegal star Eamon McGee has revealed he has received hate mail after declaring his support for a Yes vote in next Friday’s marriage equality referendum.Eamon McGee has revealed he has received hate mail.The Gaoth Dobhair footballer made the revelation in The Sunday Times newspaper.He said the letters to his house told him he’d be going to hell for his stance on the vote. “There’s been letters to the house with no names on them saying that I’m going to hell and leading the people of Ireland to hell, all this off-the-wall stuff.“Obviously you’d prefer it didn’t happen but I feel I’m doing the right thing. I’m happy I can look back that I stood by principles I believe in.”McGee is one of several high profile GAA players who have publicly called for a Yes vote in the referendum.Dublin’s Rory O’Carroll and Michael Darragh MacAuley along with Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea are others to have declared their support along with the Gaelic Players’ Association.
