(Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)On paper, Michigan-Iowa was one of the more intriguing games on the noon slate. In reality, it wound up being the most boring possible Big Ten slugfest. Honestly, that may be exactly how Jim Harbaugh likes it, though. The No. 10 Wolverines outlasted the No. 14 Hawkeyes in Ann Arbor, 10-3.If you liked punting, this was your game. Neither team cracked 270 yards of offense, with Michigan outgaining Iowa 267-261.That is a combined 528 offensive yards, compared to 633 yards on 15 punts by Iowa’s Michael Sleep-Dalton and Michigan’s Will Hart. The last play of Iowa’s final drive, thankfully, did bring some excitement, if only for a moment. Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley was flushed way back by Michigan’s tenacious pass rush, but the right-handed quarterback somehow found Tyler Goodson on a dump-off with a lefty throw. Goodson gained back a bunch of the yardage that Stanley had surrendered, and looked like he had some room on the 4th & 10.Instead, he was tripped up by a Michigan defender on a great effort, and taken down for what ended up being a long one-yard loss, giving Michigan possession.Don’t tell Jim Harbaugh that this game was boring. That play, which ended right in front of him, had him fired up.HARBAUGH LYFE— Timothy Burke (@bubbaprog) October 5, 2019It was ugly, but Michigan picked up a much-needed win against a ranked opponent. Still, I doubt it is going to make many feel better about Michigan football. If anything, it makes Wisconsin look like an even stronger favorite to come out of the Big Ten West than it already did.Harbaugh and the Wolverines move to 4-1, with a trip to Illinois next week.last_img
