Godinez has been an adjunct instructor in the Athletics Division since last September.Godinez is best known for his versatility in coaching, including success as a men’s basketball head coach and an assistant football coach. It’s his second association with PCC sports as he was the Lancers defensive backs coach in 2009.From 2007-2010, Godinez ran his own performance training business, working with many local prep and college track and field athletes.He completed two successful seasons as a men’s basketball head coach at Victor Valley College, directing the team to the 2015 SoCal Regional Playoffs with a 17-15 overall record. The Rams nearly upset eventual CCCAA state finalist East Los Angeles in the first round before losing 96-91. He also was a co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for VVC.From 2010-2013, Godinez served as defensive backs coach and a recruiting coordinator at Gardner-Webb University (North Carolina). In 2008, he began his coaching career as he directed La Verne Luthern High’s football team to a Majestic League title.As a student-athlete, Godinez was a 3-sport star at Los Altos High and originally earned a playing scholarship to the U.S. Air Force Academy. He eventually became an All-American, All-State football safety at Mt. San Antonio College. Godinez parlayed that into a scholarship to San Jose State where he was an Academic All-American and earned both a bachelor’s degree (sociology) and master’s (kinesiology). Godinez playing career ended with an injury after signing a free agent contract with the NFL’s Washington Redskins.Godinez will hit the ground running in this coaching venture as the PCC track and field season begins in February.A resident of Montclair, Godinez lives with his wife Jennifer and two young children, daughter Payton and son Avery.
