Bjelica: “Dani Olmo is the best player I have trained”

first_imgNenad Bjelica (Osijek, Croatia, 1971) played in the Albacete, Betis and Las Palmas during the 90s, before going to Germany and Austria, where his career as a coach began. In Zagreb had won two leagues and he was on his way to another before a few days ago, due to financial problems, he had to leave the club. What happened to Dinamo Zagreb? We reached an agreement to terminate the contract. The club, without consulting the squad, had issued an ultimatum to cut the chips and we refused to let it be that much. How can it be that a coach who was on his way to winning his third league in a row and who made history in the Champions League does not follow? It is not logical, because we had achieved things that did not happen there 50 years ago. But I have seen worse things in soccer. Time will tell who is right. I have done my best, I have tried to improve the team and the players individually. We did two historical seasons. And now, what does Bjelica expect? My intention is to train in some of the most important leagues in the world. I think that after 13 years of coaching and 470 games, it is about time. I speak Spanish, Italian, German, English and Polish, in addition to Croatian. That opens many doors for me.How many clubs have called you these days already?(Laughs) When I was training for Dinamo, offers were coming from countries like the Emirates or China. But money doesn’t move me. I want to show my worth in some top-level league, like Italy, Germany or Spain.Like Dani Olmo, for 20 million to Leipzig.Dani Olmo is perhaps the best player I have coached. In two years it has developed impressively. He is a wonderful boy and a splendid person. I recently found a newspaper from March 2019 and there was an interview in which I said that I was sure to debut with the absolute team. And that has happened. Dani is a born winner. Don’t you think you were aiming for a bigger club?I honestly didn’t think he was going to Germany, but it’s his decision. I think that in Spain or Italy his talent could be seen more, but in the Bundesliga he will also stand out, for sure. You will find your way wherever you are, you know what you want in life and you fight to get it.Here at LaLiga we have two of his compatriots, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic, who do not know where they will be next year.Modric received the Ballon d’Or only a few months ago and continues to play at a good level. You shouldn’t leave Madrid. Rakitic is younger, but I say the same. Maybe not so much this year, but it has always been very important for Barcelona. The same has deserved better treatment. Sometimes a coach comes along who doesn’t count on you, you have to accept it and find the place where you can play the most.LaLiga was his League. Albacete, Betis, Las Palmas … A goal of his with the verdiblancos against Celta served to play a Cup final in 1997. The celestial ones do not forget it either, due to the controversy.Serra Ferrer took me with a 0-0 draw, and I put him in a play in which we decided not to return the ball to Celta, because they did not stop stopping the game. I made a wall with Alfonso and I marked. Then it was the qualifying goal. My memories of Seville are the best, a son of mine was born there. If I would like to train Betis? He has a great hobby and it is a city where one can show his ability. His countryman Davor Suker, who is also from Osijek, also played in Seville. In Osijek we do not coincide, but in Spain we play against each other and in the National Team a game together. Davor is President of the Croatian Federation and I have a very good friendship with him.last_img read more
